In addition to being the owner/photographer/naturalist for Whimbrel Nature, a company focusing on educating the public about the natural world, Dr. Elijah Goodwin continues to be involved with education and scientific research at many different levels. He is currently involved with a long-term research project with the Rockefeller State Park Preserve, in Westchester County, NY studying the productivity of deep forest and development-sensitive bird species. Working mainly with Wood Thrushes (Hylocichla mustelina), the project aims to assess the current nesting productivity within the Preserve and make recommendations for future habitat management to increase the productivity of deep forest nesting species. Dr. Goodwin was a NYSCamp delegate representing Massachusetts in 1992. He also served on NYSCamp staff for multiple years.
